Botafogo’s recent recovery continued against Duque du Caxais in the Rio de Janeiro state championship but only thanks to a couple of late goals.

The Rio giants were staring defeat in the face after Doria scored a 77th-minute own-goal at the Volta Redonda to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage but a storming last ten minutes secured a much-needed three points.

Juan Carlos Ferreyra bagged after 82 minutes to equalise and the gap in Duque’s defence widened when, with a minute left on the clock, Jorge Wagner sealed the victory.

The result takes Botafogo up to eighth in the table on 11 points, while their opponents remain rooted to the bottom.
