Atlético Mineiro’s new loan signing Nicolás Otamendi has revealed that he is delighted to have the opportunity to play with Brazil legend Ronaldinho.
The future of Ronaldinho was uncertain for a prolonged amount of time but his decision to renew his contract with Galo appears to have helped them sign Otamendi.
The Argentine defender has spoken to Lance about how he has enjoyed his time with the club so far.
Otamendi said: “I chose to serve a big club, champion of the Libertadores. Firstly, to have a great player like Ronaldinho. I am delighted to be here.
“He is a great player. I’ve seen him before via television, now to train with him. It’s something unique, he is a very humble and quiet player. I would like to play with him and win titles.”
The on-loan Valencia defender should get the opportunity to play with Ronaldinho this evening in Galo’s derby match against rivals Cruzeiro.
He is targeting success with Atlético and wants to try and help his new club retain the Copa Libertadores.
Otamendi’s loan is due to end before the final of the South American event but he still wants to help his new team as much as he can.
He added: “Today I am here and I will work to help us get as far as possible (in the Libertadores). I want to play in the semi-finals, my loan will finish after but it does not matter.
“Everyone would like to play in the Libertadores final.”
