Liverpool manager praises Coutinho, labelling his talent as ‘remarkable’
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been singing the praises of Brazil’s Philippe Coutinho in an interview he gave to the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds boss spoke about the Brazilian’s ‘remarkable talent’ and went on to admit that the £8.5 million man “wows” him every day in training.
Rodgers said: “He’s an absolutely wonderful talent. There are very few players at this level now that penetrate with a pass, that play through teams, and he puts teams on the back foot all the time.
“He doesn’t always get there. But the quality of his passing and the weight of his passes is sensational. And he’s a good guy as well.
“His talent is remarkable. Every single day he does something that makes me think ‘Wow, what a talent’.”
The Anfield manager also revealed that he can clearly see Captain Steven Gerrard has huge admiration for Coutinho’s skill.
Rodgers went on to say that Liverpool legend Gerrard and Coutinho have a great trust between them, which is only normally seen between two exceptional talents.
“Top players like to know there are other top players around them,” the Liverpool manager explained.
“Steve probably never knew a great deal about him but straight away I could tell he could see he was a really good player.
“You see the trust they have. Stevie will give him the ball and he (Coutinho) knows he has that security and solidity behind him.
“It’s very important you have players like that who can feed Coutinho with the ball. It’s very important to our style to dominate the central midfield, and with Stevie and Philippe it’s an incredible performance level.”
