Manager Gus Poyet was left impressed with Ignacio Scocco’s Sunderland debut.

The Argentine forward, who joined from Internacional in January, played for 65 minutes as Sunderland beat Southampton 1-0 in the FA Cup.

Poyet admits he is looking to integrate Scocco in slowly, but was pleased with the 28 year-old’s first outing for the Black Cats.

“I think the idea with Nacho is to start slowly and get him used to the pace of the game – he will get into positions that nobody expects,” he told Sunderland’s official website.

“He had a great 65 minutes and we’ll look forward to seeing him on the pitch in the next few weeks.

“He knows how to see things, he knows how we move the ball and he just needs to get sharp and match fit – the rest he’s got in the locker.”
