Bayern Munich defender Rafinha has spoken of his delight at being called up to Brazil’s main squad ahead of their friendly against South Africa on March 5.
The 28 year-old, who has previuosly represented his country at under-20 and under-23 levels, has had to bide his time for an opportunity to add to the solitary cap won way back in 2008.
“I promise to honour the shirt like I always have!”, Rafinha wrote on twitter, “I am very happy at being called up by the national team.”
Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari’s second-in-command, Carlos Alberto Parreira, told SporTV News that Rafinha had been called up to provide another option at right back: ” We need to combat the unforseen circumstances that happen each season. We have already used Dani Alves and Maicon a lot. We needed a third name.”
