AC Milan attacker Robinho has been ruled out for the forseeable future after picking up a muscular injury in Saturday’s 3-1 away defeat to Napoli, which saw the Brazilian replaced by countryman Kaka around the half-time mark.

The news is a bitter blow for two reasons: Luiz Felipe Scolari names his Brazil squad for the upcoming match against South Africa tomorrow afternoon and, with the manager only selecting European-based players for the game, Robinho would have been extremely hopeful of selection.

Secondly, Milan have a crucial Champions Legue second round tie against Spanish pacesetters Atletico Madrid on February 19th and the loss of Robinho will hamper their preparations for the game.

The Brazilian has recently fallen back into favour with the national team and was one of a number of players seeking to force their way into Brazil’s final World Cup 23 ahead of the tournament’s start on June 12.
