A worker has died following an accident at the World Cup stadium Arena da Amazônia in Manaus involving a crane, Sky Sports News report.

According to the report from the English media publication, organizers in charge of the preparations for the city confirmed the death of the worker.

It is the third person to die following work at this stadium in particular and this worker was dismantling a crane that had been used to install the roof at the World Cup venue.

Arena da Amazônia workers are planning to go on strike on Monday according to the civil construction workers union in the state of Amazônas.

Lance reported on the death and spoke with the union’s president Cicero Custodio.

Custodio said: “What makes us sad is that we noticed they aren’t really worried about the workers.

“We’ll only be back to work when the authorities sit down and talks with us.”

It is a sorry state of affairs and unfortunately tragedy has been rife throughout Brazil’s World Cup preparations, hopefully this is the last we see.
