Alexandre Pato’s time at Corinthians was something of a rollercoaster ride. Unfortunately for the 24-year-old, the lower moments outnumbered the high.

The main criticism of Pato was his high cost and the fact that he brought so little to the club in return.

He was bought from Italian giants AC Milan in January 2013 for a cost of about £10m.

In the past 13 months, he has scored just 17 goals in 63 games – a rather weak average of 0.26 goals per game.

Each goal therefore works out at a cost of approximately £600,000, without even taking into consideration the player’s salary.

With this amount of money one can buy a Ferrari F12berlinetta.

The striker will leave the club for arch-rivals São Paulo, with Jadson heading in the other direction.

The crisis at the club culminated in fans invading the training ground last weekend. As well as Pato, both Douglas and Ibson have already left while it’s expected that Emerson Sheik will be the next to go.

Corinthians’ poor form continued last night after they lost to Bragantino in the São Paulo state championship.
