Ugly scenes occurred after Real Madrid’s excellent 3-0 win over Atlético Madrid in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey as away fans allegedly made racist chants towards Marcelo.

The Brazilian was an unused sub at the Bernabéu but when he went through his warm down after the game he was on the receiving end of sickening monkey chants from the Atlético faithful.

Sky Sports’ La Liga correspondent Graham Hunter reported the news via his twitter account.

He tweeted: “Brutal, horrible, disgusting monkey chants at Marcelo by the Atlético fans while he & the other Madrid subs do their warm down. Inexcusable.

“Marcelo just turns and looks up at them in total disgust, puzzlement and bemusement at them. Hands on hips as if to say ‘you clowns’.

“His kid comes on the pitch & runs to his arms while these fools sing “hope your dad dies”. This isn’t football as I know it. Rotten to core.”

As Graham Hunter described, truly disgusting scenes following a victorious night for Real Madrid.

The Brazil full back and his child shouldn’t have to tolerate chants like that from supporters and the Spanish authorities must punish the Atlético Madrid fans. This is assuming these claims prove to be true, although it seems likely they will be.

Racism needs to be kicked out of football and you suspect the beautiful game will be dragged through the mud again this week following this dreadful racist incident.
