New Inter Milan signing Henrique has insisted that he joined the club in January for success and not to boost his wallet.

The Brazilian midfielder left Rome outfit Lazio to move to Inter for a fee in the region of €20million and has furiously defended his decision, citing playing on the biggest stage as his motivating factor.

Hernanes told Goldtv: “I chose to go away and it was not a question of money.”

“After a fantastic three-and-a-half years, I realised that if I wanted to play in the Champions League or win the Scudetto, I had to try something new.”

“With Lazio, me and my teammates were not able to reach certain goals. So as soon as the opportunity came, I took it.”

Hernanes had been at Lazio since 2010, when he moved from Sao Paulo, and helped them win the Coppa Italia last term.
