Argentine superstar Lionel Messi admits it would be a dream to win the World Cup this summer for his country.

Albiceleste are among the favourites for this summers tournament alongside host country Brazil and Messi told Marca what winning the competition would mean.

Football Espana published quotes from the 26-year-old, who does still believe his country have some improving to do, he added: “Winning a World Cup is the dream of the entire country.

“Our team has grown and although we have to iron out some details I think we are getting there.

“It’d be a dream to play in the final, whether against Brazil or anyone else.”

The three-time FIFA Ballon d’Or winner suffered from injuries in 2013 and lost his World player of the year title to Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, so far in 2014 Messi has been fit and although he couldn’t prevent Barcelona from losing this weekend, he is happy to be healthy again.

He added: “I’m happy because I’ve played several games in a row.

“Mentally I’m also doing well too. It’s true that I had a difficult time but all is forgotten now.”
