The new signing only arrived in the Spanish capital on Saturday and despite not having trained with his new teammates has been named in Diego Simeone’s squad for tomorrow’s game at the Vicente Calderón.

The Brazilian’s transfer to Atlético Madrid was finalised in the final hours of the transfer window but has been included in the squad list due to the fact that fellow Brazilian Filipe Luis is ruled out through injury.

The former Santos player underwent fitness tests on Saturday and the Spanish club confirmed that they were successful.

Diego was grateful to the Wolfsburg for allowing him to return to Spain midway through the season.

“I’d like to thank Wolfsburg, in particular Klaus Allofs and Dieter Hecking who have agreed to my request to leave and were always very open with me. I had a super time in Wolfsburg overall. Our fans always gave me excellent support and I’d like to say once again to them: many thanks! I wish Wolfsburg all the best.”
