Cardiff City have officially announced the signing of Brazilian full-back Fábio da Silva from Manchester United on a permanent deal.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to the Welsh side for the majority of the January transfer window and after various reports suggesting it was complete it has finally been confirmed.

The twin brother of Manchester United right-back Rafael will split up with his brother permanently for the first time, although he did join Queens Park Rangers last season on loan.

Fábio will wear the number 35 at Cardiff and is likely to make his debut against Norwich City tomorrow at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The talented, versatile Brazilian spoke to the official Cardiff website and told them how pleased he was to move.

“I’m very excited to be part of this,” said Fábio.

“I’m looking forward to helping Cardiff. I was at Old Trafford on Tuesday – supporting Cardiff but hoping that my brother did well too, of course!

“I know this is the right move for me. I spoke a lot to the manager about coming in and I know that I can help us move up the division.”

Fábio will hope to help his new club in their battle against relegation from the Premier League.
