Fans have a week left to purchase tickets for Brazil before FA will return any leftovers to FIFA with nearly 3,000 tickets still unsold for group games.

The FA has so far failed to sell almost 3,000 tickets to official supporters’ club englandfans for the three Group D games against Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

Interestingly, only 500 tickets remain for the least accessible game, the opener against Italy in Manaus. For the games against Uruguay in São Paulo and Costa Rica in Belo Horizonte, 1,500 and 800 respectively remain unsold.

Prices range from around £55 to £105 but its spiralling travel costs that appear to the main reason why England fans have turned their back on this summer’s tournament in Brazil.

In 2006, tickets for the World Cup in Germany were like gold-dust, with England’s group games oversubscribed by up to 500 per cent.
