Porto midfielder Fernando could be set for a move to Manchester City after Portuguese broadcaster Sport TV revealed that the Brazilian is close to a move to England.

Lance reported the news from Sport TV and various reports in England believe the 26-year-old could move before the January transfer window shuts on Friday night.

Firstly Jason Burt of the Daily Telegraph tweeted this morning that the English club are interested in Fernando.

He said: “Porto still quoting 15m euro fee for Fernando. They have offers from CSKA Moscow and Monaco. #MCFC interested. Could be one for the summer.”

The Metro, another British paper, believe Man City are interested in signing the defensive midfielder as well. They also insist delegates from the Manchester club are in Portugal to arrange a deal.

Fernando’s contract expires in the summer and he can sign a pre-arranged contract with teams now. However his current club will look to get a fee for the midfielder rather than letting him leave for free in June.

With just over a day left in the transfer window, any move for Fernando will need to be hastily arranged and it seems this one could go down to the wire.
