There was no shortage of shocks in this weekend’s round of state championship games in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

In the Campeonato Carioca, Botafogo were beaten 2-1 at Cabofriense whilst Flamengo had to come from 2-0 down to draw with Duque de Caixas. Fluminense won 3-1 at Nova Iguaçu whilst Vasco da Gama ran out 6-0 winners against Friburgense, with Edmilson grabbing a brace.

Cabofriense are now joint leaders a long with Flamengo. Both have achieved 7 points from 3 games.

In the Paulistão, São Paulo, Palmeiras and Santos all won but Corinthians were beaten 1-0 at home by São Bernardo FC thanks to a third minute goal from Erick Flores.

São Bernardo now top their group with maximum points ahead of Santos, Ponte Preta and Portuguesa.
