Botafogo’s Rafael Marques is formally presented as a Henan Jianye player
A first-choice at Botafogo last season, the striker was presented by his new club on Monday and has signed a three-year contract with the Chinese outfit.
The purchase of Rafael Marques cost the Chinese team £3.5m, with half of that going to the player’s agent and the other half to the Rio club. It is the second time that the 30 year old has had a spell at an Asian team after representing Japanese side Omiya Ardija between 2009 and 2012.
Oswaldo de Oliveira brought the striker to Botafogo in 2012. After a long period of adaptation during which he was harshly criticized by fans because of a lengthy goal-drought, Marques redeemed himself with a good 2013. He became a crucial player in a team that won the state championship and qualified for this year’s Copa Libertadores.
