Brazil midfielder Paulinho is looking forward to Wednesday’s match against Manchester City and appeared to play down praise from manager Tim Sherwood during his last appearance.

The 25-year-old picked up an ankle injury against Stoke on December 28th and has only just returned to full fitness.

After the 3-0 win against Stoke, manager Tim Sherwood praised the summer signing and now Paulinho is delighted to be back.

Speaking to the official Tottenham website, he said: “I’ve only missed a few games with that injury and now I’m back.

“It’s nice when the manager says these things. I just give my best for the team. I don’t play alone.

“I only play well when my friends and colleagues help me. I always give my best for the team and the squad.

“The table looks good at the moment. We have a big match against City now and if we can win this match, it could be very important for us.”

Paulinho scored during his comeback friendly game last Thursday against West Ham and admitted his injury was difficult to take.

“I’m happy to be back, to score,” admitted the former Corinthians star.

“I had an injury against Stoke, a difficult situation for me because I never had that injury before.

“Now I have to work hard in training and do my best to give the manager another option.

“I will work hard and see how it goes.”
