Michel Bastos has immediately endeared himself to the Roma faithful and possibly made himself a target for the next Derby della Capitale.
The Brazilian was presented to the Stadio Olimpico before Roma’s triumphant 1-0 win over Juventus in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia.
Unfortunately though for the club and Bastos, it didn’t run as smoothly as expected as the 30-year-old held up a scarf, which in English means “Lazio S***”.
A very disrespectful thrase to the other Rome club, although Roma fans certainly would have loved their new signing holding up a scarf endorsing that message.
However, Bastos was simply holding up a scarf thrown to him unaware of what it says and of the repercussions of holding it up.
Roma tweeted from their official twitter account an apology, they added: “Bastos held up a scarf thrown to him by the fans unaware of the message it displayed.
“The club and Michel apologize for any offence caused.”
A slightly embarrassing moment for the former Schalke player, if not a comical one. He won’t let it effect him though that is for sure and will be focused on making an impressive debut this weekend against Verona should he be selected.
