Arena Corinthians almost ready for World Cup fixtures
The stadium that is set to host the opening fixture of this year's World Cup is 97% complete, according to the man overseeing the construction of the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo.
Hosts Brazil will kick off the tournament against Croatia on June 12 and after several key issues surrounding the stadia to be used, including the tragic death of two workers from a collapsed roof in November at this very location, Andres Sanchez told Reuters that everything is back on track.
"We have got some things pending because of the accident but we've got the all-clear and by the end of the month they will remove the damaged piece. We will hand the stadium over by April 15."
As well as the opening match, the Arena Corinthians, with a capacity of over 48,000 , will also host three further Group games, a Second Round tie and a Semi-Final.
