Real Madrid wing-back Marcelo has urged his teammates to focus on maintaining the impressive recent form which has seen them, for one day at least, go joint-top of La Liga.

A resounding 5-0 thumping of Real Betis- with goals from Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema, di Maria and Morata- saw the capital-based outfit join Barcelona and Atletico Madrid atop the league, and see them reduce the goal difference on the latter to four.

Marcelo, who has 28 Brazil caps, told goal.com that his colleagues must continue the good work if they are to win the title: “We played before the others at the top and we know that we need to keep fighting, working hard and winning matches. We’re doing well, but we know that we cannot relax.”

The 25 year-old, who joined Real in January of 2007, made his 250th appearance for los Blancos against Betis and added that he was proud of the achievement:

“It is a dream come true but we have to keep moving forward to win titles.”
