Michel Bastos is on the verge of completing a move to AS Roma from Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates, snubbing a switch to Serie A rivals Napoli in the process.

The 30 year-old winger, who is equally at ease playing left wing-back, would again link up with coach Rudi Garcia if the transfer is successful, a man with whom he worked at one of his previous clubs, Lille.

Bastos will join Roma on a loan initially, with a future fee of around €3.5 million quoted by asroma.co.uk

He had enjoyed a successful period at Lille and moved from them to Lyon in 2009 for a fee of €18 million, but struggles with form in 2013 saw Bastos loaned to Schalke in Germany and then sold to Al Ain.

Although not thought of as a realitic option for Luiz Felipe Scolari ahead of this year’s World Cup, Bastos will be attempting to get himself back in the international spotlight, and hope to add to his ten Brazil caps.
