Mexico’s head coach has insisted that his side have the capabilities to reach the World Cup Quarter Final at least in the tournament that begins in little over five months.

Miguel Hererra has overseen a tricky end to the Mexican qualifying campaign in which they only confirmed their place in Brazil courtesy of a play-off victory against New Zealand.

Now, however, is the time for Mexico to shine, according to Hererra, who told femexfut.com: “We are convinced that this group can reach the quarter finals at least. We aim to make history.”

The confidence displayed by Hererra is admirable but, if they are to achieve such a feat, would need to escape a Group containing the hosts, Croatia and Cameroon, before realistically having to then face either world champions Spain or 2010 runners-up Netherlands in the Second Round.

Mexico’s opening game of the tournament will come against Africans Cameroon on June 13 in Natal.
