Currently in Brazil with Team USA for a period of training and acclimatisation, the player has been introducing many of his teammates to Brazilian cuisine.

The name may not sound it, but USA midfielder Benny Failhaber is Brazilian. He was born in Rio de Janeiro but left the country when he was six-years-old. He speaks with an impeccable carioca accent and says that his heart belongs to Botafogo.

In São Paulo with Team USA for a two-week training camp, the 28-year-old revealed his desire to play for the alvinegro one day and also talked about how he has introduced his teammates to the likes of rice and beans.

“The first thing they asked was about the food, what they should eat and what they should experiment with. It’s cool to be able to tell them all about the things I used to eat when I was little, like rice and beans, meat and passion fruit juice.”

The player confirmed that he’s no longer able to travel to Brazil very often due to professional commitments but that this doesn’t stop him from supporting Botafogo.

“I’m botofoguense. My dad’s botofoguense. I was born botofoguense and have always wanted the opportunity to play in Brazil. I haven’t had this chance yet but let’s see what happens in the future. I would seriously consider it,” said the American, who added that he was not angered by Clarence Seedorf’s exit to Milan.

“He gave everything for the club when he was here. It was the best position that Botafogo finished in the league for many years. We hope that he does well at Milan,” he asserted.
