The 21-year-old’s ankle injury will be assessed on Friday but the Barcelona coach is not worried.

The images of Neymar’s injury in Barcelona’s 2-0 victory over Getafe may have shocked some and left many very concerned. However, the Barcelona coach, Tata Martino, has allayed fears by saying that he doesn’t think the injury suffered to the player’s right ankle is too serious.

“The images haven’t helped in calming people’s fears. Thanks to God, it’s not important what might have been but what the medical staff say. We don’t think that he will be out for long. It could have been much worse. The medical staff have reassured us and will tell us how long they expect him to be out,” said the Argentine.

The Barcelona squad have already arrived back in Catalonia, where Neymar will undergo tests to reveal the extent of the injury. According to preliminary reports, he could return to action in less than a month. The star has received the support of his teammate, the Argentine Lionel Messi.

“It’s a real shame. The medical staff will carry out some tests, but we hope that it’s nothing serious and that he’s not out for long because we need him. He’s important for us and I hope that he gets well soon,” said the 26-year-old.
