Brazilian-born American international Benny Feilhaber has rejected claims that Diego Costa will face criticism from the Brazil crowd during this year’s World Cup.

Feilhaber, who was born in Rio de Janeiro but moved to the United States when he was six, was quoted by Lance.

He added that if Costa is picked by Spain and Brazil face the current World Champions, then maybe then fans wouldn’t be happy.

“The Brazil fans will not be upset unless they play against Spain. If it is Brazil against Spain then yes but this is how the crowd is.”

The 28-year-old was talking to the media in São Paulo, where the USA have been training and he said that it would be exciting if he played in the World Cup.

He featured in the 2010 tournament in South Africa but said it would be more special this time as it is in his home country.

“It is very exciting and if I get to the cup with the USA it will be something very special.

“I’ve played in a World Cup before but playing in Brazil, that will be something very, very cool.

“I think there is still five months to go but since being here in training it has been very special. The excitement will be great.”
