National captain Thiago Silva has been named as the only Brazilian representative in this season’s uefa.com team of the Year, two days after he and Dani Alves were announced as part of the FifPro World XI.

The PSG central defender, 29, made the ficticious Dream Team selection, which is voted for by visitors to UEFA’s website and gives an indication of how far apart opinion lies between the professionals and the fans.

Alves missed out at the expense of Bayern Munich’s David Alaba but national colleague Silva’s presence cements his status as one of the world’s leading players.

Having moved to PSG in the summer of 2012, Thiago has seen his club claim last year’s French Ligue 1 title as well as making sterling progress in the Champions League.

And in 2013 he captained Brazil to a famous Confederations Cup win against world champions Spain in a dress rehearsal tournament for the World Cup.
