Since Clarence Seedorf revealed that he would become the next AC Milan coach, most have praised the decision and backed the Dutchman to be a success.

However, fellow countryman Marco van Basten believes the decision is definitely a risk and that nobody can know for sure how Seedorf will handle the pressure.

In an interview with NOS Studio Sport, the 49-year-old did accept that the choice made sense.

“They chose Seedorf, which makes sense, somehow, but it is also a big risk.

“You never know how someone will handle the situation and if things will work out.”

The former Milan striker did praise Seedorf’s successful career but also looked at the differences between the pair.

Now Heerenveen manager, van Basten didn’t get into management until several years out of the game following his retirement, whilst Seedorf has virtually thrown himself into coaching within a week of retiring.

“A difference with my situation is that he turned straight into a coach after hanging up his boots. I completely left the game and then I returned.

“He is fluent in Italian and has enjoyed a long and successful career. Such things are important too.”

Although van Basten believes it is a risk, he will hope the former Botafogo midfielder can be successful with his old club who have struggled domestically this season.
