Midfielder Elano is delighted to have joined Flamengo.

The 32 year-old will spend the next 12 months on loan at Rio de Janeiro-based club from Grêmio.

Elano hopes to rediscover his best form after a difficult year and still harbours ambitions of forcing his way into Brazil Head Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari’s FIFA World Cup plans.

“I was born to play at big clubs," he said, as reported by xinhuanet. “It"s the first time that I"ve had the opportunity to live and play in Rio de Janeiro. It"s a privilege to be a part of this club that has just been crowned champions.

“I want to be a reference on and off the pitch. I am here to collaborate and help. The most important thing are the results on the pitch and I"m going to endeavor to do the best for me and for Flamengo.

“I"m never going to give up [on the national team]. I didn"t have such a great season last year and that was my fault.

“[But] I couldn"t have made a better choice. If I start well, have a good Copa Libertadores, myself and other Flamengo players might have the chance to play in the World Cup."
