Sections of the English media have been caught out by a Wikipedia error that claims new West Bromwich Albion Pepe Mel managed Corinthians in 2004.

The oversight was noted by several journalists on Twitter, after numerous reports suggested the Spanish tactician had previously worked at the São Paulo-based club.

In their history, Corinthians have only ever employed four foreign managers. The most recent was Argentinian Daniel Passarella, in 2005, while Pedro Mazzulo, Manuel Fleitas Solich and Darío Pereyra have also held the role.

For Mel, who was previously at Real Betis, West Brom is his first appointment outside of Spain.
