Vasco da Gama suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of German side VfB Stuttgart, as they continue their preparations for life in the Brasileirão Série B.

A Mohammed Abdellaoue brace, plus goals from Cacau, Martin Harnik and Vedad Ibišević completed the rout against a Vasco side that was largely made up of youngsters and reserve players.

Despite the scoreline, Vasco managed to create some good openings, but were let down by poor finishing, most notable from right full-back Tshepo Rikhotso.

Head Coach Adílson Batista will be concerned by the margin of defeat, but having chosen to rest his best players for Sunday’s tie with Santos, it was always going to be difficult for Vasco, against superior opposition.
