Flamengo are close to boosting their hopes for 2014 with the signing of Ecuadorian international defender Frickson Erazo.

The 25-year-old is expected in Rio de Janeiro at the beginning of next week, according to Globoesporte, to sign documents that will see him become a Mengão player for the next four years.

However, the Barcelona Sporting Club player has revealed in an interview with futbolecuador.com that nothing has been decided yet. He praised Flamengo though by flattering their fans and lauding the size of the club.

“The important thing is to be well and prioritise my position in the Ecuadorian team. If Flamengo are interested in me, this is welcome. It is one of the most important clubs in the world, not only Brazil.

“I’m waiting to meet tomorrow (Thursday) with Barcelona Sporting Club President Antonio Noboa. I have got an interest in their proposal but nothing is decided yet.

“Flamengo is very popular in the world for all the fans they have but nothing is confirmed.”

Although Erazo insisted nothing has been confirmed it seems likely that the Ecuador international will move to Flamengo. His addition would be another step in the right direction for Mengão, who are targeting a positive 2014 after a poor last 12 months.
