An astonishing 31% of the Uruguayan’s goals for current club Internacional have come against Botafogo’s three main rivals.

Despite being fewer goals than expected overall, Diego Forlán’s flow of goals against Rio de Janeiro sides has been impressive. In his two years with the Porto Alegre club he has scored against Flamengo, Fluminense and Vasco but has spared Botafogo. Of his 22 goals for the Colorida, seven were scored against carioca teams, accounting for about 31% of the total.

In 2012, the 34-year-old scored twice against Flamengo and twice against Vasco. In 2013, it was two against Fluminense and one against Vasco.

Interestingly, none of the goals against the Rio de Janeiro teams have come against Botafogo. The Glorioso want the player to help them in their Copa Libertadores campaign and have been pushing to overcome the Uruguayan’s wage demands in order to facilitate the deal.
