Recent recipient of the prestigious Samba Gold, two-time winner Thiago Silva has taken to social media to pay tribute to Brazilian legend Zico following a meeting of the pair last week.

Silva, who was in Qatar for a low-key friendly with Real Madrid, displayed a picture on Instagram of him handing over his match shirt to the Flamengo great with the tagline: “This guy is special…#Zico pure humility… a big hug.”

The 29 year-old centre-back is an absolute certainty to make Luiz Felipe Scolari’s squad for this year’s World Cup and, barring an extraordinary shift of momentum, will captain the Selecao at the tournament.

Under his leadership, Brazil waltzed to the Confederations Cup last year where they disposed of World Champions Spain in the final 3-0.

Incidentally, Silva’s PSG team lost the friendly in Qatar 1-0, thanks to a goal from Spanish youngster Jese.
