Brazil national team forward Fred has promised Fluminense fans that he will deliver titles for the club in 2014 after a disappointing club season.

The 30-year-old only played nine times in the Brasileirão, scoring three times as Flu were initially relegated from the Brazil top flight, however they were given a reprieve when Portuguesa were deducted four points and relegated instead.

In an interview with CBN Radio, Fred said he was as hurt as anybody else at seeing his club struggle.

“I know many are upset with me, I understand but I was not saving myself for selection.

“Instead, I was suffering from the outside and I could not sleep. I remembered that I could not impact on the field and help my team and it hurt.”

The forward’s last appearance was in September but he has promised fans that he will be fully fit for 2014 and will bring titles to the club.

“I’m sure that in 2014 many goals will come and titles, listen very well, I’m telling you that titles will come.

“I, along with my team will turn up. The reinforcements such as Darío Conca will help our work. The Flu fans can expect a very happy year.”
