Flamengo attacking midfielder Carlos Eduardo has praised director of football Paulo Pelaipe for giving him the confidence to have a good 2014.

The 26-year-old had a disappointing season and his loan is due to run out in the summer of 2014 but he wants to have a positive final six months with the Rio de Janeiro based club.

The midfielder on loan from Rubin Kazan said that the Flamengo director of football fights for the group.

“I have six more months on my contract but Pelaipe has already spoken and said he wants me. I’ll give my best to achieve all for Flamengo. Pelaipe wants me and has given me confidence.

“Everyone loves Pelaipe because he fights for the group. He is the guy who is responsible for the good season of Flamengo.”

The former Brazil Under-20 international failed to find the net in Brasileirão and only contributed one assist in 24 appearances.

He was sent off against Cruzeiro in his final match of the season but prior to that had started to put in some consistent performances.

Eduardo thanked some of his team mates, vice-captain Elias in particular, for helping him when fans showed displeasure with his displays.

“In my games I was good, but the crowd picked on my toes. Important people supported me, like Elias. Luckily I have grown up and had a good end of year.”
