Goiás president Sergio Rassi has praised star forward Walter and admits he hopes to reward his performances with the appropriate wages but also questioned his weight.

The 24-year-old scored 13 goals in the 2013 Brasileirão to help Goiás finish 6th in their first season back in the Brazilian top flight since promotion.

The new president of Verdão Esmeraldino Rassi told Portal 730 that Walter can take a lot of credit for the clubs 2013 achievements.

“I attribute the success that he had. Without Walter we were an everyday team but with Walter we are a different team.

“He’s a hell of a player, great professional, but I think he should take his physical issue more seriously.”

Rassi discussed the clubs financial situation and how he will try to pay Walter the wages he deserves if he can keep the forward for the 2014 season.

The new president is looking for investors to help reward the clubs encouraging performances over the past year.

“I do not intent to pay any Goias player any more than two digits, i.e., I will not pay more than €99,000. We are unable to do so.

“The wages of Walter exceeds that for his merits, but if we do not have a partner for this transaction it will be impossible to make it happen.”
