Former Brazil captain Carlos Alberto believes Neymar can help Seleção reach World Cup final
Former Brazil international Carlos Alberto Torres has lauded the “exceptional” Neymar and believes the Barcelona forward can help his country reach the final of the 2014 World Cup.
Carlos Alberto has praised the decision of the 21-year-old to move to Spanish giants Barcelona and the 69-year-old told Goal.com that the Seleção are one of the favourites for next year’s competition.
“We have an exceptional player in Neymar. Maybe he can help us. His decision to join Barcelona was a good one as he is playing with and against some exceptional players. We are definitely one of the favourites to reach the final of the World Cup.
“I must say that by 2018, this Brazil team will be unbeatable. They will have experience of this World Cup and be ready for the challenge in Russia. That is for sure.”
The captain of the successful 1970 Brazil team believes that too much pressure could be put on Luiz Felipe Scolari’s team.
Carlos Alberto went on to share one of his memories of the 1970 World Cup and admits the pressure of the entire national wanting you to win is enormous.
“Playing the World Cup at home means there will be too much pressure on us. I remember when we played the 1970 World Cup and when we were drawn against Uruguay in the semi-finals.
“Fans would turn up at players’ homes and tell our families that ‘we must not lose to Uruguay’. That is what you call pressure. The entire nation wants you to win.”
