Coutinho aims for double celebration
Another strong performance from Liverpool starlet Phillipe Coutinho has furthered his ambitions of being involved with the national team next year.
The young man from Rio played a starring role as his side eased past Cardiff City 3-1 in the English Premier League this afternoon.
The 21 year-old, who has been at Anfield for almost a year now, last week told The Guardian newspaper that the education he is receiving in terms of defensive duties is helping him become a more accomplished footballer.
Coutinho, who stated that he has "become more of a team player", already has one cap to his name, coming as it did in 2010 in a friedly match against Iran. With a dazzling array of attacking tricks already in his arsenal, it is possible that he could force his way into Luiz Scolari's plans in the coming months- and he has an added incentive to do just that.
Brazil's opening World Cup game falls on June 12th against Croatia and Coutinho celebrates his 22nd birthday on the same day.
A selection for that game really would be the perfect birthday gift.
