Muriqui: “We want third place”
Guangzhou Evergrande striker, Muriqui, feels that the Chinese champions have proved a lot during the Club World Cup and want the third place finish to show their quality.
The striker has proved his doubters wrong since joining the Chinese club in 2010 after a string of loan moves in his native Brazil.
Guangzhou Evergrande will go up against Atletico Minerio for a third place spot in the competition and feels its important to show how much Chinese football has improved.
“Just being here and playing against some of the game’s biggest stars is a triumph for us. We have to show how Chinese football has improved.” Reports FIFA.com.
“We’ve got to a level that a lot of people thought we would never reach, and now we’re here at the World Cup sharing a pitch with the best teams in Europa and America.
“It has been a worthwhile experience and we want to end it by winning third place.”
Muriqui has impressed in China, scoring over 50 goals since moving from Brazil three years ago.
