Raja Casablanca forward Déo Kanda: We knew we could catch Atlético on the break
Forward Déo Kanda insists Raja Casablanca had a game plan to beat Atlético Mineiro.
The Moroccan side secured a shock 3-1 win against Galo in their FIFA Club World Cup semi-final.
Raja took the lead through Mouhcine Iajour on 51 minutes. Ronaldinho equalised with an exquisite free-kick 12 minutes later, before late goals from Mouhcine Moutouali - a penalty - and Vianney Mabidé ensured victory.
Kanda believes Raja were rewarded for their scouting of Atletico.
“We had a good, close look at Atletico before the game and we knew they would try to put pressure on our midfield,” he told FIFA.com. “We were aware that if we could hold Atletico off and play the ball out intelligently and quickly to the wings, then we’d have the chance to catch them on the break.”
Raja Casablanca will now face Bayern Munich in the final at the Stade de Marrakech on Sunday.
The third place match, between Atlético Mineiro and Guangzhou Evergrande, will precede that tie at the same stadium.
