Brazilian midfielder Elkeson netted as Guangzhou Evergrande beat Al-Ahly SC 2-0 in their FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final.
The 24 year-old tapped in on 49 minutes after Muriqui’s shot had hit the post.
Fluminense-bound Darío Conca doubled the lead 18 minutes later, also pouncing on a Muriqui rebound, following a smart save from Al-Ahly SC goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy.
Guangzhou, who are managed by 2006 FIFA World Cup winner Marcello Lippi, will face Bayern Munich in the semi-finals on Tuesday, at the Stade Adrar Arena.
The other semi will be contested by Raja Casablanca and Atlético Mineiro. The former beat Monterrey 2-1 after extra-time in their quarter-final.
Chemseddine Chtibi opened the scoring on 24 minutes for the hosts, with defender José María Basanta equalising early in the second half. The score remained level until five minutes into extra-time, when Kouko Guehi struck.
