Report: David Luiz one of four Premier League-based defenders Barcelona will target in January
David Luiz is one of four Premier League-based defenders Barcelona will target in January, according to Sport.
The other three mentioned are Tottenham Hotspur’s Jan Vertonghen, Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen and Liverpool centre-back Daniel Agger.
Luiz does not seem to have the complete faith of returning manager José Mourinho, with the 26 year-old largely on the fringes at Chelsea this season.
He’s made just five starts in the Premier League and three appearances in the Champions League.
Barcelona reportedly see the Brazilian as a good fit to aid a defence that has kept just ten clean sheets in 21 matches this term.
Luiz, who has been capped 33 times by Brazil, joined Chelsea in January 2011 from Benfica for a reported fee of €25 million. He has won an FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League with the London-based club.
The Diadema-native had been signed by Benfica in January 2007 from Vitória, initially on loan, before agreeing a permanent switch.
