Internazionale owner Erick Thohir has denied approaching Leonardo about become sporting director
Internazionale owner Erick Thohir has denied having contact with Leonardo about becoming a sporting director.
The Brazilian is currently out of work after leaving a similar post with Paris Saint-Germain in July. Roma’s Walter Sabatini has also been linked.
“I have never spoken with either of them,” said Thohir, as reported by Football Italia. “I haven’t asked them to come to Inter.
“Our project is a long-term one. We want to improve the stability of the club over many years.
“I will talk with [Massimo] Mazzarri and [Marco] Branca soon, and we will take stock of the situation, discussing possible January signings.”
Thohir completed his takeover of Inter three days ago. The Indonesian owns 70% of the club. He is expected to make numerous changes, before on and off the field.
Leonardo was head coach at Inter between December 2010 and June 2011. He won the Coppa Italia - 3-1 against Palermo - but resigned to take a role at PS-G.
The 44 year-old also spent five years with city rivals Milan as a player and managed them for the 2009-10 campaign.
