Felipão guarantees Fluminense forward Fred a World Cup place despite injury problems
Brazil head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has guaranteed Fred a place in his World Cup squad.
The forward has not played since Fluminense’s 2-0 defeat at home to Santos on 1 September.
He has made just nine appearances this season, scoring three times.
Scolari insists, however, that Fred will be included.
"Fred will be on my list. I have spoken a lot with Fred, almost every week. He is an important part of the group, not only as a player, he said, as reported by Shanghai News.
Fred was instrumental to Brazil’s Confederations Cup victory in June. The 30 year-old was joint top scorer with Fernando Torres on five goals.
Fred join Fluminense in February 2009 on a free transfer after being released by Lyon.
Flu are 16th in the Brasileirão, level on 36 points with Vasco da Gama - just a place above the relegation zone. Head coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo has suggested Fred could return to face Corinthians on Sunday.
