Key personnel missing as Brazil face Mexico in FIFA U-17 World Cup Quarter-Final
Brazil are without Abner, Gustavo, Jeferson and tournament top scorer Boschilia for their FIFA U-17 World Cup Quarter-Final with Mexico.
The Seleção face the holders in Abu Dhabi today. Having coasted through the group stages, Alexandre Gallo’s side made hard work of beating Russia in the Round of 16. It took late goals from Mosquito and Boschilia to seal a 3-1 win.
The loss of the latter is a particular blow. He has netted braces in three of Brazil’s four matches. Gustavo too will be missed. The 17 year-old has started every game.
Mexico progressed to this stage with a 2-0 win against Italy. They were hammered 6-1 by Nigeria in their tournament opener, but recovered with wins against Sweden and Iraq to finish 2nd behind the West Africans in Group F.
Alejandro Díaz and Ulises Jaimes are El Tricolor’s top scorers with two goals apiece.
The winner will face Argentina or Côte d’Ivoire in the Semi-Finals on Tuesday.
