Neto admits ‘I wanted to go back to Brazil and retire’ after difficult start with Fiorentina
Fiorentina goalkeeper admits he considered retiring after a difficult start in Italy.
The 24 year-old joined La Viola from Atlético Paranaense in January 2011.
After being second choice to first Artur Boruc then Emiliano Viviano for three years, Neto feared never making it in Florence. He even considered retiring.
“I wanted to go back to Brazil and retire from the game,” he told Il Giornale, as reported by Football Italia. “But you then reflect and start again.
“I also decided to play on because I wanted to emerge in Florence.
“I just continued on my path thanks to the faith of everyone. I never felt like I was a gamble, I know I was given a great opportunity and I couldn’t pass up on that.
“To stay here for three years without playing was tough…”
Neto managed to dislodge Viviano last season and has been first choice ever since. He’s kept four clean sheets this term.
