Felipão hits out at Diego Costa as forward chooses to represent Spain rather than Brazil
Brazil head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has criticised forward Diego Costa for ‘turning his back’ on the Seleção.
The 25 year-old announced today that he will represent Spain at international level, rather than Brazil.
His decision has irked Felipão, who had been keen to select the Atlético de Madrid man.
“A Brazilian player who rejects the chance to wear the Brazil shirt and play at a World Cup in his country can only be automatically withdrawn from the squad,” said Scolari in an official statement.
“He’s turning his back on something millions dream of doing: playing for the five-time world champions at a World Cup in Brazil.”
Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) president José María Marín suggested the case wasn't closed, with the possibility of legal action to prevent Costa from making the switch.
“We’re going to fight as far as we consider is best for Brazil. The CBF does not consider the case to be closed,” he said.
