Auro ready as Brazil face Russia in Round of 16 at FIFA U-17 World Cup
Brazil full-back Auro admits he was surprised to be selected for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The 17 year-old featured in all three matches, as the Seleção progressed through Group A with maximum points.
Auro claims he did not expect to be in head coach Alexandre Gallo’s squad, let alone feature so prominently.
“I was told to report for duty with the A Seleção. I woke up, grabbed my kit, and I was off,” Auro told FIFA.com. “It was completely out of the blue.
"They already had two full-backs. I only trained a couple of days with the squad so I was surprised when I was picked to start. I’ve managed to hold onto my place so far. Let’s see what happens from here on.”
Brazil face Russia in the Round of 16 on Monday. Dmitri Khomukha’s side qualified as one of the best third place sides, after finishing behind Japan and Tunisia in Group B.
