Official: Diego Costa selected by Luiz Felipe Scolari for Seleção friendlies with Honduras and Chile next month
Brazil head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has officially selected Diego Costa for the Seleção’s friendlies with Honduras and Chile next month.
Atlético de Madrid forward Costa, along with Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Hulk (FC Zenit), Lucas Leiva (Liverpool) and Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain) was sent communication by the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF), as they require visas to enter the USA and Canada, reports AS.
Brazil face Honduras on November 16 in Miami, then Chile on November 19 in Toronto.
Costa now has to decide whether he will accept Scolari’s call. Should he decide not to, instead preferring to represent Spain, the 25 year-old has to inform FIFA through written communication. A copy would be forwarded to the CBF.
Brazil could contest any decision from Costa to defer to Spain. FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber would hear their case. Any action may potentially jeopardise the forward’s participation for either Brazil or Spain at next summer’s World Cup.
